HYBE Corporation has become the largest entertainment conglomerate in South Korea and currently enjoys a market cap of 7.17 Trillion KRW (5.5 Billion USD). HYBE is the home to the most prominent K-pop artists and is also the company behind the most popular K-pop group, BTS.
The corporation has successfully grown beyond a management company and even acquired various other entertainment companies under its umbrella. Currently, HYBE has six subsidiaries under its belt, with different percentages of ownership in each company.
Big Hit Music, to which BTS and TXT is under, is owned 100% by HYBE. ADOR, a subsidiary recently established, is also owned 100% by HYBE and recently launched the girl group NewJeans.
Other subsidiaries include Pledis Entertainment, which was acquired by HYBE in 2020. Pledis Entertainment, to which Seventeen and Fromis_9 are under, is 85% owned by HYBE. Source Music, home to the rookie girl group LE SSERAFIM, is 80% owned by HYBE. KOZ Entertainment, to which Zico is under, is 66.7% owned by HYBE and was acquired in 2020. Lastly, HYBE owns 48% of BELIFT LAB, which is home to ENHYPEN.
Many netizens were surprised to see the percentage of the subsidiaries owned by HYBE, and some were even unaware that KOZ Entertainment was a subsidiary of HYBE.
Netizens commented, "When did HYBE acquire KOZ Entertainment?" "Wow, look at all the percentages owned by HYBE," "Oh I didn't know Zico was part of HYBE," "I think HYBE acquired KOZ before Zico went to the military," and "Wow, HYBE owns a big portion of Pledis and Source Music."
They have these companies in a chokehold, next time when something happens i don't want to see anybody saying "this has nothing to do with HYBE" because if they own 80% you know damn well they're pulling the strings, or at least have a big say in what goes on
