Melon continues to be the number one music streaming platform in Korea

Melon continues to be the number one music streaming platform in Korea in terms of active users.

While YouTube is dominating the world as a both video and music streaming platform, Melon continues to be the number one music streaming platform in terms of active users in Korea. 

According to MobileIndex on June 25th, Melon kept its biggest market share of 30.49% in May. Last year that statistic was 31%. On the other hand, Genie Music came down to 15.23% from 18.46%, giving second place to YouTube Music which rose to 17.99% from 13.1% last year.  

Melon has recently announced that it would increase the in-app purchase on Google playstore by 10% starting on June 29th, however, the number of users seems to remain stable. 

Experts say this is thanks to Melon's various music charts and original content on the platform such as 'Melon Station'. Representative of Melon commented, "We believe 'Melon chart', which is based on 20 years of big data, is giving us a competitive edge."
