On June 15, a representative of the broadcasting station JTBC stepped up to issue an official apology for a scene from the drama 'Insider', where outlaws gathered inside a Buddhist temple to partake in illegal gambling.
Some time after the first episode of JTBC's 'Insider' aired last week on June 8, controversy brewed over a scene in which the interior of a large Buddhist temple was transformed into an illegal gambling house. In another scene, a Korean Buddhist monk was even seen joining the gamblers, making his own bets.
Soon afterward, a religious peace committee representing the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism accused the JTBC drama series of defaming and insulting Buddhists and Buddhist monks.
Now, JTBC has stepped forward to put the controversy to rest. The broadcasting station stated on June 15, "During the upcoming broadcasts of 'Insider' episodes three and four, scheduled to air from June 15-16, JTBC plans on displaying a formal apology for the earlier scenes defaming and insulting the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism."
Furthermore, it's been revealed that representatives of JTBC also visited the Korean Buddhism History and Culture Memorial Hall in order to apologize to Buddhist leaders and seek methods of resolution.
Currently, the first episode of JTBC's 'Insider', featuring the controversial gambling scenes, is unavailable via VOD or streaming services.
Meanwhile, JTBC's 'Insider' stars Kang Ha Neul, Lee Yoo Young, Heo Sung Tae, and more.
Hahaha uhh ever heard of cults? There's so many out there, under religious belief they have so much money cause none of it gets taxed. For sure there are "Buddhist" temples pretending to be religious when they're actually not
