6 American Shows that Would Make Great Korean Remakes

AKP STAFF

While it is common for Korean broadcasting stations to make spin-offs of other Asian dramas or shows, rarely do viewers get to see an American show be re-vamped into a Korean version. But with the airing of the Korean spin-off of “Jane the Virgin,” which has been gaining much popularity domestically and internationally, here are six American sitcoms and shows that would be great to see as remakes in Korean!

  1. The Office: Originally a British sitcom, “The Office” was adapted within the US and centers around the daily working life of several employees within a paper company out in Scranton, Pennsylvania. With snarky scripts and meme-worthy moments, to be able to see a spin-off of “The Office” focused on the workforce within Korea would no doubt bring much laughter and even more meme-worthy moments to the screen.

  2. Full House: Taking place in San Francisco, California, living under one roof is a widowed father with his three kids, two of his closest friends, and a free-floating neighbor and the adventures that follow. While “Full House” showcased the epitome of a typical American family household, to be able to see a Korean remake of this show would be an eye-opener to the culture, morals, and dynamics of a typical Korean family. RIP, Bob Saget.

  3. Drake and Josh: A conniving little sister and the adventures of two brothers, getting to witness what kind of ups and downs would unfold between the relationship of two stepbrothers would make an interesting show nonetheless.
  4. Friends: When it comes to sitcoms, no one ever forgets the iconic "Friends." Beyond the comedy and chemistry between a tight-knit group of friends, this early 90s show focuses on love, marriage, divorce, heartbreaks, and so much more. It is also the show that is known to have taught English to BTS' RM. It'd also be great to see RM make a cameo if this show ever gets a Korean remake.

  5. Hannah Montana: You get the best of both worlds!  Living the persona of an idol at night and a normal teenage girl in the day, now that would make one heck of a show. Viewers would be able to get both the glitz and glam of the entertainment world and every day lifestyle of a student trying to find herself and get through life.

  6. The Golden Girls: This for sure would make viewers laugh, following the lives of four elderly grandmas with entirely different personalities ranging from snarky to naïve who would not love watching elders go through the ups and downs of romantic relationships, friendships, and more.

Have you ever watched any of these shows, and which one would you make the best Korean remake?
