Actor Kim Bum revealed how he prepared for his drama role of a person possessed by singer/actor Rain's character.
On February 24 KST, Kim Bum sat down for an interview to reveal his thoughts on his recent tvN drama 'Ghost Doctor', wrapping up filming. Here, Kim Bum played the role of Ko Seung Tak, a resident doctor in the cardiothoracic surgical unit. In addition to showing off great on-screen chemistry with Rain, Kim Bum received praise for his detailed performance in showing the subtle changes of his character going back and forth from being possessed by Cha Young Min (played by Rain) and then returning to his original character of Ko Seung Tak.
When asked, "What kind of experience was it to act possessed?" Kim Bum answered, "It was fun. To give an example, when we were young we would see those variety shows where when you go 'pop!' a person would disappear and when you go 'pop!' [again] they would reappear. We were basically filming this in real life. At first, it was embarrassing, and it felt like the staff members were laughing at me. If I wasn't serious about this, then it would be a low quality comedy, so I thought to myself 'it's okay to be like this. I had faith in myself while acting."
The interviewer then commented, "You must have observed actor Jung Ji Hoon's (Rain) behavior and way of speaking because you needed to act possessed." To this, Kim Bum replied, "First of all, it was a situation where I also had to act a 'Seung Tak ghost version.' So when I didn't have filming for the first two months I kept observing Ji Hoon hyung. I discreetly took note of his external characteristics, by observing the way he walks, his way of speaking, and his gestures. When wearing a doctor's gown, Seung Tak puts his hands in his pocket and is in a hunched posture. I portrayed him as a character who is sensitive to touch. There was a difference in Young Min's appearance when he puts his hands in his pants pocket. When it came to walking, I copied Disney cartoon characters for Seung Tak and for Young Min I tried to show someone full of confidence."
