This is Jimin's first solo song as well as the first and fastest song from BTS' 'Wings' album to achieve this milestone in the US.
Looking at solo songs written by BTS members, none have recorded this number of unit sales in the US either, and so Jimin becomes the first member to boast of such an achievement. The same case applies to unpromoted Korean solo songs. No other unpromoted Korean solo song has achieved this feat; thus, 'Lie' has set a new record on these two aspects as well.
This new achievement only adds to the already very long list of achievements recorded by the song ever since its release in 2016.
For example, no other solo song from the 'Wings' album has surpassed 160 million streams on Spotify, the largest music streaming platform globally. Currently, 'Lie' has 163 million streams on the platform, making it the most-streamed solo song and second most-streamed song overall from the album after the title track. It is also the most-streamed Korean solo song on the platform out of all the 2016 releases.
Additionally, no other solo from the 'Wing's album entered the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart on its release in 2016. 'lie' peaked at #2 on the chart on its release.
There are numerous other records by the song, such as charting in 82 countries and regions on iTunes, charting in 10 countries and regions on Apple music, ranked #80 in 2016's most liked music on MelOn, was among the top 40 most streamed BTS songs on the UK official charts for years 2018, 2019, and 2020, and first BTS solo to enter worldwide iTunes chart whereby it has currently achieved 52 #1's on iTunes as of February 7th. Here are more of the achievements.
Fans' jubilation resulted in various keywords entering Twitter trends such as LIE IS GOLD, RECORD MAKER JIMIN, HIT MAKER JIMIN, and Congratulations Jimin, among others.
'Lie' is indeed a masterpiece in every aspect. From the lyrics, melody, and Jimin's vocals and dance, everything came together to make this a legendary release in the industry. In fact, rookie idols have consistently covered the song from 2016 to date because its performance is something that all idols wish to be able to emulate on stage. It has become an industry standard and a 'rite of passage' for rookie idols to cover the song as a show of their capability as their group's main dancers. This is why the song has earned Jimin the title of 'the rookies' bible.' Here is a compilation of some of the idols who have covered the song.
LIE is a masterpiece and full of art. When Jimin performs this song his talent and artistry shows and he's always amazing.
