Actor Lee Jung Jae confirmed that he will be absent from the upcoming 'Golden Globe Awards' ceremony, despite his nomination for a major award.
On January 5 KST, Artist Company stated, "It is an honor that he was nominated. However, because Netflix will not be participating in the Golden Globes, Lee Jung Jae will also respect Netflix's decision."
The hit Netflix original series 'Squid Game' has been nominated for three awards at the Golden Globes. First, Lee Jung Jae has been nominated for the 'Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series' award, while actor Oh Young Soo has been nominated for the 'Best Supporting Actor in a Television Series' award. Finally, the show itself has been nominated for the 'Best Television Series, Drama' award.
However, Netflix, along with various other Hollywood studios, recently announced that they will be boycotting the Golden Globes due to the their lack of diversity. As a result, many celebrities and directors have also announced their absence from the upcoming Golden Globes, and will be rejecting any awards given to them.
i appreciate individuals boycotting but its kinda funny knowing netflix is boycotting over diversity when their shows that are more diverse usually get cancelled within 2 seasons and are never pushed. also they recently had that comedy special that got a lot of flak from transgender people, and plenty of other things like Bridgerton that minority groups had problems with. ppl have been complaining about netflix's forced/lack of diversity yet they do nothing about it
