2022 has just started, but BTS has already set new records! You may be surprised, but given that it is BTS, it's no surprise.
This seven-member boy group is already known globally. BTS is still reaching new peaks in different charts worldwide almost nine years into their career. Listed here are five big records BTS has broken this year, and we're not even two weeks into 2022.
1. On January 6 KST, BTS' second compilation Japanese-language album 'BTS, The Best' surpassed 1 million copies on the Oricon Japan chart. This is the first time an album by a K-Pop idol group has sold more than 1 million copies. They are also the first Korean act in 16 years since BoA in 2005 and the first album by a foreign male act in 17 years since the band Queen in 2004 to achieve this.
2. On January 5 KST, BTS' first-full English-language megahit single 'Dynamite,' has spent 500 consecutive days charting inside Spotify Global Chart, becoming the first and only song by any Korean and Asian act to do so. 'Dynamite' is still charting at No. 71 with over 1.1 million filtered streams as the longest-running Korean song in the chart's history.
3. On Spotify's update on January 8 KST, BTS reached a new peak of monthly listeners on Spotify with over a whopping 45 million monthly listeners. They remain as the Korean act and the K-Pop idol group with the highest peak Spotify monthly listeners.
4. BTS member V's original soundtrack 'Christmas Tree' for the drama series 'Our Beloved Summer' debuted straight to No. 1 on Billboard's 'Digital Song Sales' chart, V is now the first Korean soloist to debut a solo song at No. 1 in the chart's history. V also becomes the first Korean soloist to ever debut on the 'Hot 100' with an OST. Following the release of his OST, V has reached new peaks on Billboard's 'Artist 100' and 'Emerging Artists' chart at No. 57 and No. 1, respectively.
5. BTS member SUGA has recently reached a new peak of over 11.1 million monthly listeners on Spotify following the release of the collaborative single 'Girls Of My Dream' with Juice WRLD. SUGA remains the Korean male soloist and the 5th Korean act overall, with the most monthly listeners on Spotify.
BTS is truly history makers, the global boy group has already cemented their legacy in the music industry with all of these jaw-dropping accomplishments, and we're just a week and a few days into 2022, seven legends.
