Halloween, the time of year when we all get to watch our favorite scary movies, enjoy too much candy (or have a few too many drinks if you so incline) and watch our favorite idol groups dress up in funny costumes and practice their choreographies or perform special Halloween stages. But for most of us, Halloween and the scary parts associated with it aren't seen terribly often in K-Pop.
When most people think of K-Pop, they think of brightly lit and colorful music videos or the bad boy/girl crush concepts that so many groups follow. But sometimes, there are music videos that go to the dark side of things, usually a creepy or even a horror-inspired concept. We all need a bit of a scare in our lives, especially with Halloween just around the corner.
Dreamcatcher
"BEcause"
It would be rude of me not to start off with the queens of the dark/creepy concept. Just about every Dreamcatcher MV is horror-inspired, and with "BEcause," it takes the feeling of creepy dolls to a whole new level.
VIXX
"Voodoo Doll"
A great concept from the concept kings. With heavy images of body horror spread throughout and the members dressed as terrifying monsters under a woman's control, "Voodoo Doll" goes that extra mile of just being plain scary.
Cross Gene
"Black or White"
It's hard to think of Halloween without blood, and "Black or White" has more than enough of it for any viewer. Along with a creepy bathroom and an even creepier operating room, it hits all the right areas (TW: self-harm).
IU
"Lost Child"
While the images of writhing bodies in a dead forest may be unsettling, there is also a certain beauty to be seen within this music video. But the image of the ghostly visage is definitely pretty disturbing.
KARD
"You In Me"
Showing how a broken relationship can leave you an empty and dead shell, "You In Me" uses dark and contrasting imagery to show that no matter who you are, you can fall into someone's clutches forever.
G-Dragon
"Coup D'etat"
Beautifully artful and quietly unnerving, G-Dragon falls right into place in this mysterious dark fantasy world. Showing a broken and pained psyche, he isn't afraid to bare it all and lay his personal feelings out there.
Red Velvet
"Peek-A-Boo"
Who doesn't love a good haunted house full of creepy psychopathic girls ready to kill? While the song itself is an upbeat tune, the music video has the viewer wondering what these girls are going to do next.
Sunmi
"Full Moon"
Not going to lie; the beginning of this music video made me jump when I first saw it. A vampire tormenting her latest victim on the night of a full moon, nothing is more perfect for Halloween.
Sunny Hill
"Pray"
It's not hard to see why this video is on this list. Monotone coloring, images of captivity and experimentation, and an unhappy ending coinciding with a slow ballad in the background, it is deeply disturbing.
SHINee
"Married to the Music"
What's the point in having Halloween if you can't have a bit of fun with it? Especially with a decapitated head. SHINee shows the funny side of an oddly supernatural party, and it's just an all-around great time.
Married to the music is a bop!👍
