Did BTS and the Korean media cut ties?
2021 has turned Out to be BTS’s Biggest year yet at The Billboard Music Awards, bagging all four awards they were nominated for, but some Korean netizens are disappointed with the amount of media coverage in their native South Korea.
"Seriously, there are almost no articles about BTS. I’m a fan of pop music, but it’s not supposed to be this quiet…"
Below are some of the comments.
1. [+648, -18] These aren’t kids who blew up because of media play and it seems they don’t like such things. You can feel it when you look at the level of questions being asked in the press conference.
2. [+473, -6] What do you expect from a country where the media didn’t even talk about their stage at the Grammys?
3. [+381, -20] It makes me wonder if it would be better if Bang Si Hyuk was the type that usually uses media playㅋㅋ.
4. [+188, -0] Even with Kim Yuna, American and Canadian media praised her achievements, while Korean reporters didn’t even know how amazing she is. In other words, our journalists just lack expertise... They just don’t know how amazing BTS is.
5. [+151, -0] For articles about BTS, it’s easier to look up foreign articlesㅋㅋㅋ.
6. Big Hit rarely pays for advertising until 2019. Big Hit doesn't give reporters useless money and focuses on overseas.
Last year, Music critic Kim Young Dae and political journalist Kim Ou Joon have discussed the difference in media coverage regarding BTS and other K-pop groups with smaller achievements.
Weverse Magazine, 2021.05.25 issue of their review article “Butter” through the eyes of the music industry talk about the unique phenomenon behind BTS and their music .
"BTS is the prevailing example of the changing relationship between artist, fan and industry, and their order of appearance. Traditionally, artists were discovered through industry expertise and insight, released into the market, and a relationship with fans followed. In BTS’s case, they developed a relationship with their fans at a global level before anything else. The industry has been paying attention to the relationship and market, and now wants to come in and make good use of it.Good examples can come from unexpected places:McDonald’s BTS Meal will go on sale from May 26. In this year alone, McDonald’s has also collaborated with Travis Scott and J Balvin."
BTS are ruling the K-entertainment industry.Every time I open any online platform, it's all about BTS. Same thing saying in different articles. Ah, there is a limit. Other than BTS nothing is happening there?? An international fan like me wants to know about others groups, dramas and movies too. (Just my opinion.)
NB: It's just my doubt and nothing offensive 🙏
