Fans discover another trademark application for "I purple you." Why isn't HYBE trademarking it in BTS V's name?

Fans were in a jubilant mood after the cosmetic company, Lalalee, apologized for trying to trademark "Borahae (I Purple You)" and announced that they will withdraw the application. However, this joy wasn't long-lasting as shortly after, another patent application was found for a trademark for, "Because we are Army. I purple you."

The trademark was filed back in March and is still pending. While fans hope that the application will be rejected due to the universal knowledge that V is the creator of Borahae, they are still enraged at the company.

"Borahae” is a term coined by BTS V and has now become a universal symbol of love and trust between Kpop supergroup BTS and its fandom, ARMY. The significance of the term is not only limited to Kpop, but even the world recognizes its meaning.

Due to repeated attempts by companies and individuals to gain monetary benefits from 'Borahae,' fans are strongly appealing to HYBE to protect 'Borahae' as well as its English counterpart, "I purple you." They want the company to trademark it in BTS's V's name since he is the rightful owner of the term.

The phrase was heavily used to promote BTS's collaboration with McDonald's. However, many were left wondering if V was given the royalties for the commercial usage of his intellectual property.

As long as borahae has not been trademarked, many companies will try to make use of it, and there is only much that fans can do.

Even in a recent live stream, Suga also suggested that the agency should copyright the term in V's name. V jestingly requested the company to make the arrangements.

Fans are eagerly waiting for V to get what's rightfully his and HYBE to provide justice as soon as possible to avoid more issues.

The phrase borahae (I purple you) is certainly distinctive enough to be trademarked, which means it can be used commercially only with Taehyungs permission, and this is very logical to do, both because he created it and also because it is increasingly being used in commercial contexts.

But non-commercial use is outside trademark regulations, so fans can use it freely, which is something that Taehyung himself would fully support.
