On February 18, NU'EST fans(LOΛE) started to trend the hashtag #PledisStopNUESTMistreatment demanding better treatment for Pledis entertainment's most senior boy group, who will be celebrating their 9th-anniversary soon.
NU'EST is the first boy group under Pledis entertainment as they debuted on March 15, 2012. And the mismanagement of NU'EST may not be news to many K-pop fans. Their debut was quite successful, and they even charted high in music streaming sites, and their debut mv 'Face' used to be the most viewed debut mv for the longest time. But due to Pledis not promoting them properly and sending them off to other countries for long periods of time and having no contact with their domestic fans, their fandom grew smaller until they were on the verge of disbanding. That's when they, NU'EST (except Aron due to health reasons), decided to join produce 101 season 2, a survival program, as the last chance in saving the group.
Even though they faced criticisms, they held on and reached the finale, where Minhyun reached the top 11 and got into Wanna One. The other members, even though they didn't make it into Wanna One, still got huge support from the general public and fans, and due to the sudden charting of their older song 'Hello' and all the support they got, they were able to continue as NU'EST W, a subunit with the remaining 4 members. NU'EST W was met with a lot of success as their title track 'Where You At' charted no.1 in many music streaming sites, including melon. They were also promoted well and they appeared in many variety shows, magazines and got many endorsements. In 2019, after Minhyun is back, they had their first music show win as NU'EST with 'BET BET,' and after that, every time they had a comeback, it was met with huge success with over 200,000 albums sold and charting high on music streaming sites and having at least 4 music show win each time. But the only problem was the lack of promotions from Pledis.
Many people in the entertainment industry have mentioned Pledis not responding to them when they ask for NU'EST to appear in their show. During their last comeback (which was 9 months ago), 'I'm in Trouble,' Kim Sook and Lee Youngja, who are the MCs of a show called k-bob star, publicly called out Pledis for not answering their calls. And after LOΛEs trended hashtags and mass emailed Pledis they finally announced that NU'EST would be going to k-bob star. And on the show, it was revealed that leader JR himself talked to the company to let them go. Other than that, their promotions also lasted for 2 weeks, and it was not promoted well on their social media accounts. There were no posts about it on their Instagram or Facebook accounts. Now their youtube series called L.O.Λ.E STORY: NU'EST LAB is also discontinued since 3 months ago.
So fans, who get no content, other than the members posting on their personal Instagram accounts and Weverse, had a collective outrage and is demanding Pledis for better treatment, including:
• Better social media management
• Proper comebacks
• Subtitles on released contents
• Providing various opportunities for group/unit/solo schedules
• Longer comeback promotional period
• Continuation of L.O.Λ.E STORY: NU'EST LAB
These are just a few of the demands.
Here's a .
Also, a few months ago, and once before that also, Ren posted about malicious comments he received on Instagram story.
Translation: Stop sending malicious words,😄 Take that time you spend telling me what to do and focus on yourself.
Translation: Meditation? This isn't something that can be solved by just meditation.
Even though LOΛEs mass emailed Pledis and trended hashtags, no feedback or any action taken against these malicious commentators were provided as of yet. So now fans are also demanding better protection of the members from such comments.
Even though the hashtag has been trending for a long time in various countries with over 100,000 tweets, Pledis has yet to respond.
sounds fair to me. nuest has always been wonderful. i wondered why they werent catching on because i really liked them, but whenever i tried to turn friends onto them they didnt take me seriously because they werent popular. so it was like a vicious cycle. they werent popular because people werent paying attention but its always hard to get fans to pay attention to groups that are not popular. so since pledis has absolutely never done their job in promoting, its always been difficult. it must be incredibly frustrating for nuest themselves
