We all knew that BTS comeback will once again shake the whole K-pop industry. But I don't think any of us expected online pre-voting results to show the monstrous gap between current number one and other groups. Of course, this is only online voting open for fans all over the world and voting for the next episode was opened today but... it already shows it may be impossible to win against BTS.
So here is when the fun begins. Let us take a look at IZ*ONE score from the last episode.
IZ*ONE got an amazing result - 10914 which nearly tops the ladder because the official maximum score that groups can get is 11000. So for those who are now scratching their heads thinking how and why it's like that here is small information what counts for the total score in M Countdown:
45% - Digital - it shows how each group is doing on Mnet, Melon, Genie, and Bugs.
Maximum result = 4500 points
15% - Physical album sales - this is based on current Hanteo chart
Maximum = 1500 points
20% - Social media - based on youtube music video views and video clips from M Countdown performances.
Maximum = 2000 points
10% - Pre-vote - based on international fans online voting.
Maximum = 1000 points - and that's the "key" of this article that shows us fans can only make a decisive impact when two groups have a very similar number of album sales and they are doing similar on multiple music charts.
10% - Broadcast score - based on how many times the song was played on MNet programs.
Maximum = 1000 points
+10% - Live vote - it's opening when M Countdown episode is airing. Fans can vote via website or text.
Maximum = 1000 points - similar situation to point "pre-vote". But it's even harder to vote here because most votes are those send via SMS by people living in Korea and Japan.
So quick conclusion - BTS will probably get three consecutive wins week by week. After triple-crown, they won't be listed again, well at least not with the same song. Still, remember that total voting results aren't flexible, the best result that BTS can get it's still 11000 points. BTS can top IZ*ONE only with 86 more points and it won't change.
Well at least it won't change now but maybe it will give M Countdown producers an idea of how to upgrade/expand the scoring system to show exact differences between groups even if it makes this visible margin bigger.
I think you are a little confused on how scoring works below first place, IZ*ONE's score will be relative to BTS, so it won't be anywhere near the 10914pts they got for the win. lets just look at album sales but the same methodology is applied across the board, BTS will get 1500pts for their 2.5m sales on hanteo whereas IZ*ONE has ~380k which means they have about a 6th of the sales BTS has, so they'll get a 6th of the 1500pts so about 230pts. The different in scores will be pretty large until BTS aren't eligible to win again.
