BTS once again demonstrated their global power.
On July 18 (US time), Association for Supporting the SDGs for the UN - an international non-governmental organization that obtains special consultative status under the management of United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific - announced The 100 Top Global Sustainability Leaders 2019 & The 100 Most Sustainable Brands 2019 at the headquarter of the United Nations in New York and selected the world's most sustainable leader and businesses.
BTS has been named as Top Rank Sustainable Future Leader. The boys are placed alongside 10 other characters like Malala Yousafzai - the youngest winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, peace activist-doctor Alaa Murabit, Stitch Fix's CEO Katrina Lake, etc.
No.1 of the Business Leaders belongs to the chairman of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation; No.1 of the Political Leaders goes to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez - a member of the U.S. House of Representatives; No.1 of Social-Environmental Leaders was awarded to actor Leonardo DiCaprio.
There are 60 companies such as ALPHABET, Nestle, HSBC, Beyond Meat, AT&T, Alibaba, Adidas, Tesla, Berkshire Hathaway, Tencent Holdings, FedEx, etc., which top on the list of 100 most sustainable businesses - brands in the world. In addition, 40 brands such as Impossible Burger, Disney, Starbuck, Google, Walmart, Master Card, Instagram, etc., had been selected as the most sustainable brands.
According to the announcement, most brands and leaders related to Korea (including BTS) have been chosen. President Choi Jung Woo of POSCO, Chairman Shin Dong Bin of Lotte group, director Kim Dong Woo of BKT, CJ CheilJedang, KT, POSCO, Lotte Chemical, SK Hynix, Samsung Electronics, bibigo, Aronamin of Ildong Pharmaceutical, CJ ENM KCON, NextRound Industrial Bank, etc. were named in this list. Besides, the fact that BTS' official fanclub ARMY entered the list published separately named "10 most sustainable groups" became a hot topic.
The United Nations organized the "2019 High-Level Political Forum" (HLPF) at the UN Headquarters within 10 days from July 9 with the participation of more than 90 Government representatives. The organization published "The 100 Top Global Sustainability Leaders 2019 & The 100 Most Sustainable Brands 2019" list as the last event of the forum. The official list can be found on the Instagram account "unsdgs" of Association for Supporting the SDGs for the UN. The selection process took place from May based on the analytical content through 10 criteria and 43 indicators with the subjects of 2,000 typical leaders and 3,000 typical global businesses worldwide.
