For me, I started in 2009 with Super Junior and Donghae was my ultimate bias before I listened to f(x), SHINee, SNSD, miss A, 2ne1, 4minute, and INFINITE. Ultimately, in 2013, I discovered BIGBANG with G-Dragon being my bias up until this day.
I feel like Kpop, in general, was more organic in terms of fame, music, and image in comparison to today. But that might just be me?

I'm old 58 but a recent fan of Korean kpop, rock and rap. Found Kpop through Jae Joong when he starred in Triangle. He had the most beautiful voice such sweetness. Then I found EXO through D.O. when he was It's Okay, It's Love. The Kdrama Twenty Again introduced me to BTS in a dance scene where they played Dope.
I went to my first Kpop concert in 2016 by myself. It was EXO and with that I was sucked into the vortex.
I'm starting to go back and "discover" some of the older groups. I was a Big Bang fan from the beginning but I'm now deeply into SHINee especially Taemin. I saw them in concert with a friend who is a big SHINee fan. I wish I had really appreciated them more when I saw them. I went more for my friend but I wish I had really noticed Jonghyun during that night. I never knew what a soulful and sweet man he was until his passing.
The EXO concert opened a door for me that changed my life. It was an emotional epiphany that I had been missing out on life. I actually cried on the way home. I was just at the end of finalizing my divorce.
Months later as I was driving to the court house to finalize my divorce and the song Stronger by EXO came up on my Pandora. That couldn't have been more perfect. Soft song to calm the soul.
