Big Bang's Seungri's lawyer spoke carefully about Seungri's innocence.
SBS funE reported that the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission was currently looking into whether Seungri's KakaoTalk messages were fake or not. The ACRC has received tens of thousands of messages from a KakaoTalk group chat room including Seungri, Yuri Holdings' Mr. Yu, and various other celebrities. The messages investigated include the messages purporting prostitution.
Seungri's lawyer Son Byung Ho said, "We will not be responding individually to the various reports about the messages. We will be responding through the results of the investigation."
The KakaoTalk evidence was reported to the ACRC instead of the police because it also included suspicious messages involving the police. If there is deep police involvement, then the KakaoTalk evidence will be directed to the prosecutor instead of the police, after the investigation by the ACRC.
Well, this is a smart and understandable response from a good lawyer. It's all about having a poker face in public, and not saying anything that could incriminate your client any further. There may be everything, there may be nothing, although I think we can all agree at this point that there is far more than 'nothing' in the information presented to the Commission. But the point is, what the lawyers do or don't know, do or don't have, is irrelevant until charges are brought forward. If they are good lawyers, which given the money Seungri has I'm certain they are, they probably know everything that is or isn't in those messages and have come up with whatever strategy they believe will best suit their client. Whether or not that strategy involves fighting false allegations, or concocting a strong and 'sincere apology' before sentencing, is yet to be seen. But they certainly aren't going to come out and give a definitive statement on the messages, as it could bring more issues to their client down the road. At this point, you keep your head down, your mouth shut, and you hold your cards close.
