On March 8, representatives from Mystic Entertainment confirmed to various media outlets that AKB48 graduate Takeuchi Miyu (23) has now signed an exclusive contract with the Korean label.
Previously, it was rumored that Takeuchi Miyu met with Mystic Entertainment regarding a contract. Less than a day later, Mystic revealed, "Takeuchi Miyu is a singer who has proven her skills not only in singing, but also in song composition and writing. We will support her to the fullest so that she can showcase a good synergy with Mystic's unique color."
Last year, Takeuchi Miyu finished at #17 on the grand finale of Mnet's 'Produce 48'.
I really hope these companies that are picking up these AKB48 girls have a solid plan for them, and aren't just banking on the idea that some of their fans from the show will flock to them. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed both Miyu and Juri on the show. But at the same time I also never saw much that really made them "pop" or showcased a huge natural talent. Both were decent singers, a little better than average but nothing amazing. Of course, I think all the girls on the show were beautiful, but I know by the rigid standards of the K-pop industry, both got some flack for not having the "right" look. On top of that, neither were amazing dancers in their own right, but they did dance well and learned the choreography about as well as the rest of the girls. So with all that being said, it just makes me wonder what the companies with whom they've signed have planned for them. I still wish them both well, and give them mad props for sticking it out and following their dreams. I'll definitely be on the lookout to give them my support, I just hope they made the right choice.
