In a personal, lengthy Instagram post, Highlight's Junhyung chose to deliver a personal account of his relation to Jung Joon Young and the hidden camera footage scandal.
Within the post, the former idol clarified that his label's initial denial of his involvement with Jung Joon Young was due to his mistake, not Around US Entertainment's. He relayed, "When I received the call from the agency on March 11 after the SBS news report, I did not understand the core context of the issue and informed the company that I was never a part of a group chat room. Which is why the company then took my side and claimed that the SBS news report was false; however, this was my mistake."
Furthermore, Junhyung told his side regarding the ongoing hidden camera footage investigation with, "The Kakao Talk conversation reported in the recent news article from 2015 consists of a conversation from the morning after we went out drinking, where while greeting each other, Jung Joon Young told me [that he was caught distributing hidden camera footage]; to this, I responded, 'You got caught by the girl in the footage?'. I did not receive any videos in that particular conversation, but I have received other hidden camera videos [from Jung Joon Young]. Not only that, but we carried out inappropriate conversations about those other hidden camera videos. All of these actions were severely immoral, and I was foolish. I was not aware that such actions were classified as crimes and the violation of the law, becoming complacent to the situation; it is also my fault for not preventing the situation from occurring."
Finally, Junhyung added, "I have never filmed hidden camera footage myself, nor have I ever distributed any such content. Moreover, from late 2016, I did not contact Jung Joon Young more than to offer polite greetings from time to time. Still, even though I knew what was happening, I acted too complacently and thought nothing of the wrongdoings that occurred, remaining a silent bystander to a severe issue where numerous more victims could have suffered."
"I was not aware that such actions were classified as crimes and the violation of the law"
It's hard to take an apology seriously when one reads such an excuse
:/
EDIT: no offense to anyone who is commenting and justifying how no one supposedly knows nothing in their own country, but I hardly think the general QI in South Korea is -50.
Stop justifying their supposed ignorance, you're just making it worse. We all know they know it's not okay, hence why their only excuse is that "they're public figures, they should have known/be more careful/not done that"
why would they say that if they supposedly didn't know it was illegal?
just...stop
