IZ*ONE made a new record with 'I Want to Say I Like You.'
On February 6, the project girl group from 'Produce 48' released their Japanese debut single. On the first day of release, 'I Want to Say I Like You' topped Oricon's single album chart with 193,469 copies sold.
This makes IZ*ONE the K-pop girl group with the best first-day single sales in Japan. Previously, the title was held by TWICE with 'Wake Me Up,' which sold 129,275 copies on the first day.
In overall record counting in singles by all K-pop artists, 'I Want to Say I Like You' is the 3rd best first-day sales following BTS who took both 1st and 2nd place with 'Fake Love/ Airplane pt 2' (327,342 copies) and 'MIC Drop/DNA/Crystal Snow' (269,861 copies) respectively.
Congratulations!
In all honesty, they should concentrate on Japan and less on the Korean market. After all - unlike what the headline says, they are not exclusively a Kpop group - they are also an official and legitimate Jpop group under the 48/46 Group banner when promoting in Japan, and it seems like the Japanese market will show them 100x more love than Korea will, and provide far more profit for the Korean and Japanese companies producing and managing them.
