Award shows are really big in the Kpop community and YouTubers DKDKTV were curious what Koreans really think of these award shows.
Year-end award shows like MAMA and MMA inspire rivalry between the international fandom community but to Koreans is this really the case? David and Danny Kim interviewed several Koreans on the streets of Gangnam, Seoul and got answers directly from the local Korean Community.
When asked whether they watched year-end kpop award shows a majority of the interviewees said not really and only when it's just there. They don't purposely watch the shows and even then they only watch the highlights recommended [on Naver]. When asked what award shows they know a majority of them said 'MAMA' as this a bigger scale award show compared to others, is mostly for the younger crowd and features the most artists and actors. Also, a majority of the Koreans don't care who win the awards as they're just awards and are given freely so that fandoms don't fight. Also, it's well-known among the Korean community that these trophies always go to groups like BTS, Red Velvet and so on because they have the strongest fandoms for voting.
Most Koreans think the award shows are not fair as they're based on fan voting which is controlled by how big the fandoms are. In terms of the voting ratio between men and women, most men do not vote. They like their favorite groups from afar and congratulate them when they do well. They think it's pitiful that international fandoms fight each other online for these awards as every group is talented and it's not possible for each group to get an award.
Overall, according to Koreans, the year-end daesangs should go to BTS/TWICE/Red Velvet for 'Artist of the Year' and iKON for 'Song of the Year'.

I thought this would be their reaction. Some die-hard kpop fans don't understand that nowadays, these awards aren't as important as before because of how biased people can be. In the past, most awards really went to groups that deserved it, but nowadays, it's completely boring and unfair to groups that are more talented and/or worked harder. Even almost all the performances are duller than before because they're too focused on their appearance and how they look while doing choreos without actually interacting with the audience. I wish some over-the-edge kpop fans could realize that award shows don't really matter as much as before, even to Koreans.
