Right after his discharge, Junsu dived into promotions right away by announcing his solo return concert, '2018 Way Back Xia Concert'. The show takes place from November 3 through December 2. Next year, Junsu will also be returning to his role as Death in musical 'Elizabeth', for which he is currently carrying out preparations and rehearsals.
The interviewer commented on Junsu's unchanged appearance, and Junsu admitted that during the beginning of his military service, he gained weight. "...The reason I maintained my weight closer to my discharge was due to 'Elizabeth'. When I first started out as a conscripted policeman, I gained a lot of weight. I saw the highest weight I'd ever seen in my life. The first number was 7, a number I'd never had before. I was shocked. My character Death in 'Elizabeth' cannot gain weight, it's unacceptable... So about 4-5 months before my discharge, I went on a diet. The reason I gained weight in the military was because eating was a pleasure of that life. It was fun talking with my comrades while eating. But that led to weight gain... You have no idea what a struggle it was to be the only one not eating the junk food among my comrades."
On a more serious note, Junsu opened up about his "downward path from fame", as he discussed selling out his upcoming musical 'Elizabeth' once again. The singer remarked, "I always thought that I had only one path to go - downward - since there is no means for me to promote myself. There's no way I can promote myself through tv broadcasts..." He continued, "I started thinking that way ever since I left my former company. These days, my old image as a mysterious figure does not sell. You have to show more of yourself, but I have no chances of showing my real self on broadcasts. If I could appear on tv broadcasts, I could try to maintain my image and fandom, but it's impossible so I believe I can only sink lower from here."
Junsu's interview continues in the next article, here.
This is so incredibly heart-breaking. Junsu deserves better than this. JYJ deserves better that this.
