Swing Entertainment released an official statement regarding Wanna One's controversial comeback concept.
Following the release of Wanna One's comeback photos for '1ąą=1(POWER OF DESTINY)', John Cameron Mitchell, the writer/actor/director of the musical 'Hedwig and the Angry Inch,' expressed discomfort on how the K-pop group "borrowed" the musical's theme and logo.
In response to the issue, Swing Entertainment provided an official statement, explaining how the similarities in concept are not a violation of copyrights.
The agency stated to DongA,
"Wanna One's concept teaser was created based on the 'origin of love' found in Plato's book 'Symposium.' The symbol was also create based on the same idea with the addition of Wanna One's unique concept of destiny, the binary system, and infinity.
During the review process, we have confirmed there are no copyright issues because it is based on the 'idea' that was inspired by a universal value that must be shared by all humanity.
The idea has widely spread from the song titled 'The Origin of Love' in the musical 'Hedwig.' As there can be varying interpretations of the origin of love, we also respect the opinion of John Cameron Mitchell who has created 'Hedwig.'"
Meanwhile, Wanna One is scheduled to release their final album on November 19.
