Courts have upheld a life sentence for the man who contracted the murder of actress Song Seon Mi's husband.
The killer previously submitted a letter of apology after being sentenced to 22 years of jail time when he was found guilty of stabbing Song Seon Mi's husband, Mr. Ko, to death at the request of Mr. Ko's cousin A who promised 2 billion KRW (1.9 million USD) in return. A, who contracted the murder, was given a life sentence in the first trial, and the ruling was upheld in the second trial on September 14.
The Seoul High Court also lessened the killer's sentence to 18 years in prison, stating, "If this were a case of involuntary manslaughter, there would've been an altercation with emotions and forceful use of the knife. However, the evidence of CCTV footage does not make it easy to classify this as involuntary manslaughter. The man who was contracted to murder confessed A ordered him to commit the murder in a public location to shift suspicion away from A as A would've been the most likely suspect at the time."
The court concluded, "He's sincerely reflecting on his actions and has given a truthful confession to prosecutors despite it negatively affecting his own case."
