Broadcast insiders suspect that Mnet's 'Produce 48' will not be able to continue its tradition of airing the final broadcast live.
The final episode will detail the results of the nation's producers' last voting, which determines which 12 contestants form the next 'Produce' girl group. Previously, the final episode of past 'Produce' series also cast live voting during the broadcast.
However, 'Produce 48' may be running into conflict due to its airing time slot, which is 11 PM KST. According to the 'Broadcast Prevention Law for Ages 15 and Under', put into place in 2014, minors 15 years and under are forbidden from broadcast promotional activities after 10 PM, as part of the 'Right to Sleep and Right to Rest' clause. Contestants on 'Produce 48' who are 15 and under are Jang Won Young, Lee Yoo Jung, and Lee Ha Eun. The law allows minors to extend their broadcast activity period with permission from parents or guardians, but the extension is only limited to until 12 AM.
Previously, Mnet's 'Idol School' also came under fire for airing a live broadcast despite the presence of minors 15 and under among the contestants. As of now, details regarding the final broadcast of 'Produce 48' have yet to be determined.
