"The music that Katie Kim wanted to pursue was a rich genre, close to her home in North America, after several accounts of discussion. This was because Katie Kim felt closer to American culture and music rather than Korea's, due to the fact that she moved to New Jersey when she was 10 years old and spent yer youth there until she turned 21. YG decided to provide Katie Kim with the most effective environment catered to her music preferences, and she spent the past few years going back and forth between Korea and the U.S attending various song camps with overseas producers, perfecting many songs. Not only that, she was in a situation where she had wrapped up filming several MVs in the U.S. and other places for her successful debut. However, the unfortunate news that I have today is that Katie Kim has decided to move to a different label. To put it differently, Katie Kim prepared her debut album entirely within YG but her debut will take place at a different label. The reason for this is that one YG employee who has worked with Katie Kim from the beginning of her debut album preparation stages decided to go independent early this year, and this caused confusion with her debut schedule. This employee was also in charge of Katie Kim's promotion plans. I met with both Katie Kim and this employee to discuss what would be the best course of action, and ultimately, I left it to Katie Kim to choose. Katie Kim chose to move to the new label that the former employee started, and YG will be in charge of distributing Katie Kim's debut album songs, maintaining connections. There will likely be an announcement regarding Katie Kim's debut from a new label. Please look forward to it."
Katie Kim was declared the winner of 'K-Pop Star 4' back in 2015, after which she signed on with YG Entertainment.
