The singer shared his side of the story with lengthy posts on Instagram. Jo Kwon stated, "My graduation and degree from Kyung Hee University is not a result of preferential treatment of a celebrity but the hard effort I put into the tasks given by the school." He added, "My mind is very heavy that I'm at this point in a situation where I have to write this post of justification."
He continued, "In regards to the grad school graduation that is currently causing a controversy, you can choose two methods for graduation and that is a thesis paper or a non-thesis (graduation performance). I applied for the non-thesis method and graduated with the graduation performance. I have also attended the evaluation on evaluation day."
Jo Kwon emphasized, "I have given my best for school during my time at the grad school. In the last semester, I was informed that you can choose between a thesis and non-thesis methods and I chose the non-thesis method because I have fulfilled requirements to do so."
He added, "In every way, reporters and professors need to focus more on the deeper issues within the school but just looking at all the news today, why do I have to be the victim?", and "Reporters are writing articles adding msg and the public are only reading the provocative reports and reacting to them. But I believe the fellow students and professors who spent my time in grad school together truly know and believe I've given my best in school as a hardworking student and not a celebrity."
Lastly, Jo Kwon said, "It's severely painful that my time in school has become rubbish, and fake in just a moment."
