On February 19, the Seoul Western District Court sentenced 12 years of penal servitude to 'A' for killing her 11-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son.
According to the police, 'A' strangled her two children to death at her home in Seoul back on September 13, 2017. 'A', who was suffering from depression, was planning to commit suicide. Prior to taking her own life, she decided to kill her children in fear of them getting bullied without her existence.
The mother fed the children sleeping pills and strangled them to death. 'A' then also tried to take her own life by slitting her wrists.

At the time of the crime, 'A' was suffering from a mental disorder where she constantly had a fear of getting cancer. She threatened her husband, saying, "I'll kill you" and also showed symptoms of depression.
The judge stated, "The defendant took precious lives away due to her selfishness, thinking her children would not be able to be happy after she dies." However, "The defendant will live with guilt and regret as a mother for the rest of her life." And "The husband, who's in deep sorrow after losing both of his children and having his wife arrested, did not want punishment against her, and this factor was taken into consideration (in her sentence)."
