On December 26, an exclusive report by Hankook Ilbo stated a staff member fell from over 3m (9.8ft) high while setting up a chandelier. The staff broke his waist and pelvic bone from the fall, and also showed symptoms of a cerebral hemorrhage after hitting his head hard on the floor.
An insider from the accident reported that the staff was immediately rushed to the hospital but was already unconscious. Currently, the staff member is still unconscious and his lower half of the body is paralyzed. The doctor has also commented, "There's a possibility of him being brain dead."

Regarding the horrific accident, tvN producers shared an official statement, and stated, "First, we deliver encouragement and apology to the family members who are suffering from the unfortunate accident. Producers of 'Hwayugi' have realized the seriousness of the situation and have been continuously discussing the treatment process with other staff and family members." The statement continued, "The family has left the staff member's agency, MBC Art, to handle the situation. Tomorrow (the 27th), a meeting between the production company JS Pictures and MBC Art is scheduled." Lastly, the producers stated they will work their best to remedy the situation and promised to be more cautious from now on to prevent such accidents on the drama sets.
Meanwhile, prior to the accident, 'Hwayugi' was under fire for having one of the biggest broadcast error in Korean history.
