The current price for the full package of junior high school uniforms which includes summer, winter, and gym clothes run around 800,000 KRW or around $705 USD.
This expense is very prohibitive for parents in the poverty group, making less than 1.41 million KRW a month (around $1,200 USD).
Good Neighbors released a video (view above) showing how Hana, who comes from a low-income family, would benefit especially from this program as she is taking care of her sick mother and is unable to pay the hefty amount for a school uniform.
Living off 100,000 KRW (around $88 USD) provided by the government along with her sick mother making 400,000 KRW ($352 USD) from sewing clothes, it is clearly a struggle for Hana's family to afford a school uniform.
Seeing situations like Hana's, Good Neighbors decided to hold a campaign to support such students by providing them with school uniforms and their tuitions.
The NGO group has assisted a total of 1,042 students in 768 schools nationwide, distributing 280 million KRW (approximately $247,000 USD) worth of uniforms and fees.
