Kim, the perpetrator responsible for the senseless Gangnam murder, stated that he doesn't regret his crime.
During the first trial, Kim was sentenced to 30 years in prison. On December 15, during the trial at the court of appeals, the judge gave Kim a chance to speak for himself, and Kim said, "I don't feel repentant or regretful," while laughing a little bit.
He then said, "But I feel sorry for the girl who died because of my crime," not making much sense.
During the trial, the prosecution stated, "The defendant prepared a detailed crime and viciously murdered a young woman who was just starting her life in our society. However, he is still not apologizing for his crime and he is not saying sorry to the family of the victim."
The prosecution also emphasized, "The defendant does not acknowledge his own mental instability and demonstrates hatred and aggressiveness towards women, and therefore has a high risk of committing a similar crime again. He should be separated from the society by being sentenced to life in prison."
The defendant's attorney argued, "There is no excuse for his crime. However, the defendant suffers from a mental illness and was unable to make sound judgments; he does not even know what he is saying right now," and pleaded for a light sentence.
The verdict of the appeals trial will be handed down on January 12.
