Man confesses to a killing from 19 years ago

A 47-year-old Korean Chinese (ethnically Korean, Chinese citizen) man has been sentenced to prison time for killing a man 19 years ago. 

19 years ago, the man, surnamed Kang, killed a female owner of a bar and ran away to China. He had illegally entered Korea in 1997 and killed the victim while causing a disturbance in a drunken state. Kang killed the victim by stabbing her multiple times.

To avoid getting caught with the murder, Kang reported himself as an illegal immigrant to authorities and was kicked out of the country. However, in 2003, Kang illegally re-entered Korea and continued to live there. Then this year in July, Kang shared the story of the killing while drunk, saying, "I once killed a Korean person," with the people who were drinking with him. The people who were with him stated that Kang seemed to boast about it. Kang was arrested shortly after one of the people informed the police. 

On December 9, the Ahnyang Court sentenced Kang to 13 years in prison. The court explained the sentencing by saying that Kang's crime was not premeditated and that he had no prior record of any similar crimes.
