The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced on September 28 that they have booked without detention an 18-year-old girl on suspicions of abandoning her newborn baby.
Back on September 22, the girl had gone to the emergency room to receive treatment for her intense abdominal pains. The doctor who treated her found it strange that there were traces of placenta in her stomach and reported her to the police. Upon investigating the girl, police found that before she went to the ER, she had quickly used the hospital restroom to release the bloody discharge from her body.
The police, suspecting that the girl had given birth to the baby and either dumped the newborn in a toilet or threw it into a garbage bin in the hospital, searched every corner of the facility; unfortunately, the newborn was nowhere to be found. The girl reportedly answered to police questions with, "I don't know," refusing to reveal the whereabouts of her baby.
Police plan to look further into the case and continue the search for the baby.
