The courts have sentenced a woman for inflicting physical and emotional harm against her two daughters and failing to provide them with the basic needs.
The Busan District Court sentenced the woman, identified as 46-year-old 'A,' to one year and six months in prison and ordered her to complete an 80-hour long program on child abuse prevention. 'A' was found guilty of abusing her 13-year-old and 9-year-old daughters and not providing them with basic care and nurturing.
Last July, 'A' reportedly punished her older daughter by stabbing her with a pair of scissors and did not bother to give her the medical treatment she needed for the gashes. 'A' also fed the older daughter an alcoholic drink consisting of makgeolli (Korean rice wine) and Sprite, telling her, "It's okay to drink when I'm here." Further, this past January, 'A' shoved her daughter for playing too many games and destroyed her computer and monitor.

'A' also inflicted abuse on her younger daughter, forcing her to stay awake the entire night when she disobeyed, threatening her, "I'll kill you if you fall asleep." 'A' even refused to open the door for her younger daughter when she returned home from school, making her spend the night in front of the house. Back in December of 2015, when the younger daughter wouldn't wash herself, 'A' said to her, "Then don't wash. If you do, I'll drop you into the toilet," and compelled her to sleep on the streets.
The courts stated, "['A'] has committed all sorts of abusive behavior toward her young children including harming them with a lethal weapon, forcing them to sleep outside, and feeding them alcohol, and it was hard to find any signs of reflection during the investigation process or the trials. The husband is also serving time for committing child abuse against his daughters but we have decided to sentence 'A' with a severe punishment."
