Back in August of 2004, Sneddon visited South Korea and China for a missionary trip. However, he went missing after walking out of a Korean restaurant in the Yunnan province of China. Although authorities failed to find him and concluded that he had died while hiking, 12 years after, Sneddon has reportedly been found working in North Korea as Kim Jung Un's English teacher.

The leader of the 'Korean War Abductees' Family Union', Choi Sung Yong, reported on September 2, "Sneddon goes by the Korean name Yoon Bong Soo and is married to a North Korean woman named Kim Eun Hae. They also have 2 daughters." Choi Sung Yong also added, "Via Kim Jung Un's command, he tutors Kim Jung Un and his sister Kim Yo Jung."
David Sneddon is speculated to have been abducted by North Korea. Currently, the situation has been reported to both the U.S and the UN, and is under investigation.
Sneddon's mother, Kathleen Sneddon, stated, "I could feel it in my heart that he was alive all this time. We will continue to fight for his return."
