A lapse in judgement by a bungee jump operator led to serious injuries for one unlucky woman.
According to what Chuncheon Police Station revealed on Wednesday, this past September 14 around 6 p.m., a 29-year-old woman identified by her surname Yoo attempted to bungee jump at a site in Chuncheon's Gangchon.
Unfortunately for Yoo, the cord which was attached to her safety vest severed, making her fall a distance of 42 meters (~138 ft) into a body of water below, which was approximately 5 meters (~16 ft) deep. Yoo ended up with contusions all over her body from the accident, for which she had to receive professional medical attention.
Yoo reportedly informed police, "There was no rebound from the rope I was attached to and I fell straight down into the water below," and claimed, "The employee made me jump despite not securing the rope to a safety hook."
Meanwhile, the bungee jump establishment claimed, "Our employee did, in fact, fasten the rope to the hook but the screws came loose, and Yoo fell after the rope rebounded once."
However, police discovered from the video footage captured (seen above) by Yoo's companions that Yoo's rope had indeed not rebounded at all.
Following, their investigation, the police have arrested the employee responsible for charges of professional negligence which resulted in the injury.
