[Drama Review] '38 Police Squad' - Episode 6

Sooyoung, Seo In Guk

Ma Jin Seok groveling and being put in his place. It was a good episode.

But just because they have brought total ruin upon Ma Jin Seok, that doesn't mean that the work is done! In fact, their work is just beginning. Now their target's naturally set on one of the big guys, Bang Pil Gyu, who is apparently the next political linchpin the task force needs to shoot down. And shooting down Bang is essential for Sung Il to be cleared of his charges of assault and accepting bribes.

Asshat Detective is arrested. Good riddance.

I honestly don't understand Sung Il's near-apathetic attitude toward the high possibility that he could be fired from his post. He must know what may happen--that at the worst, he will be booted from the Tax Collection Bureau and that he may never be able to find another job. Yet, here he is, breaking laws left and right and hanging with ilk the likes of Young Do & Co. He is putting everything on the line to collect due taxes, knowing that Director Ahn, the authorities, and even the mayor may be standing in his way. I don't know if that's incredibly admirable or just incredibly stupid. I guess it's a bit of both.

Ma Jin Seok in disbelief after he was totally, utterly, completely, conned into paying those darned taxes he's supposed to pay in the first place.

Ma Jin Seok wasn't the only shady character to get what he deserved in this episode. The Asshat Detective was arrested, and as we saw on a brief news report on the TV in Sung Il's home, Mr. Asshat was arrested for charges of accepting bribes from criminals. Though it's not for certain whether the detective really did accept the bribes. At least he will be out of Young Do's hair for a while, and allow me a holiday from having to look at his smug, presumptuous face.

This sneaky old fart is hiding something...only a matter of time before the task force gets their hands on it!

And yes, I admit I was totally wrong about Young Do's intent; the guy indeed seems to be on Sung Il's side...for real. If he weren't, he wouldn't bother helping Sung Il after learning about his circumstance. But Young Do is going to need resources to pull Sung Il out of the rut he is stuck in. Resources from President Wang perhaps? As we learned in the last episode, President Wang owes Young Do his life, not once but twice. I get the feeling that President Wang was involved in the whole pyramid scheme set up by Bang Pil Gyu, suffered a critical loss, and somehow ended up in the slammers. Where Young Do comes into the picture, I'm not sure just yet. But it is making me anticipate the remaining episodes!

Sung Hee and Young Do meet once again.
