In their interview, the two musicians explained why they chose to go on 'SMTM5' in the end. GRAY stated, "I never liked the show. I was hesitant because Jay Park, LOCO, and Tablo all told me that it's hard, and you become mentally exhausted during the show. But I changed my mind because I could at least let people know what I do for a living. If more people know who I am, I can receive love from more of them. And my parents like seeing me on tv (laughter). [Simon D] didn't want to do it but I convinced him. I thought it would be good for hyung and the label."
Simon D also relayed, "People cursed me because it ended up being that I didn't keep my word [about not going on 'SMTM']. I turned it down every time it came to me because I never liked the show. But I did it for our AOMG team. Realistically, it'll bring up the label's profit. I've lived a closed-off life, not leaving the house by telling people I was working on an album and caring only about writing lyrics. Jay Park and I are co-heads of AOMG, and he motivated me by showing me how hard he was working. In my 20s, I lived busily, performing with Supreme Team and going on variety programs, but these days I'm more selective of what I want to do. I thought it was time for me to go back to my 20s, when I lived with motivation. It does feel like I'm living with more motivation for the first time in a while (laughter)."
