Following the latest news of North Korea's provocations of nuclear testing and assembling of long-range missiles, the United Nations Security Council has imposed numerous sanctions on the country, in an attempt to restrict any more suspicious activity.

The sanctions, which passed on March 2, are part of a 19-page resolution that the U.S. and China have drafted over two months. These sanctions place even stricter regulations and bans on the North's military activity. Aside from tightening the previous travel bans and asset freezes, the UN has now placed a complete arms embargo, prohibiting even formerly purchased weapons to be repaired and also prohibiting anyone from lending expertise to mend the weapons.

Further, the resolution allows UN officials to inspect any cargo traveling within or passing through the North, including airports, seaports, free trade zones, that "originated in the [Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK)], or that is destined for the DPRK, or has been brokered or facilitated by the DPRK."

Now whether the North will be adhering to these newly imposed rules is a matter of entirely different form.
