A 44-year-old man has received a harsh punishment for murdering his 67-year-old girlfriend because she refused his request for a breakup.
Back on October 19, 2015, the strangled body of his live-in girlfriend was discovered at an apartment in Incheon. The two had met back in August at a neighborhood tented outdoors eatery and became a couple. The man later found out that the woman was older than he first thought (23-year age difference). He became self-conscious of attention from other people and requested that they end their relationship.
However, the woman told him, "I can never break up with you," asking that he just deal with it, which resulted in the murder.
On March 22, the court said, "Even if the victim showed signs of obsessive behavior like looking for the defendant at his home, murdering in order to get yourself out of a situation like that is an unpardonably grave crime regardless of the reason behind it."
The judge first said, "The victim's bereaved family firmly requested severe punishment, and out of responsibility to that, a punishment that corresponds to [their wishes] is inevitable," but then added, "He acknowledged his wrongdoing and is self-reflecting, and we considered that the crime was unintentional." As a result, he was sentenced to ten years in prison.

That's more than the court usually gives, from what we've seen so far. What do you think of the sentence this time?
