On January 13, the Supreme Prosecutors' Office of the Republic of Korea submitted a claim to sentence a 38-year-old teacher, identified by his last name Kim, to ten years in prison and have an electronic ankle bracelet attached at all times so that they may monitor his activities.
According to the prosecution, Kim is suspected of molesting and raping one of his students, 19-year-old 'A', a total of 43 times within the confines of a classroom, and even filming her naked with a digital camera.
Kim is said to be 'A's homeroom teacher from her second year in high school and also the guidance counselor of a school organization that 'A' is a member of. Kim had approached 'A' under the guise of helping her with the crucial national history part of the examination to become a government employee. When 'A' accepted his offer, Kim ordered her, "Take off your clothes every time you get a problem wrong on the practice test," and proceeded to film her in her undressed state.
Kim further threatened 'A' by telling her that he will write negative reports in her records if she didn't do as he said and forced her to write a memo that allegedly stated that 'A' will "pay him 1 billion KRW (~$825,460 USD)" if she told anyone.
'A', scared that her chances of getting recruited as a government employee will suffer if she didn't adhere to Kim's demands, did everything that Kim asked of her. Kim also allegedly told 'A' that she must "always come to him whenever he calls her" and that "you belong to me."
After having enough of Kim's abuse, 'A' finally gathered up the courage to tell her third year homeroom teacher, and Kim was immediately booked and handed over to the courts at the end of last year.
Kim admitted to all the charges, saying, "I had purely good intentions in the beginning but ended up doing a very terrible thing. I have nothing else to say."
