KBS 2TV's 'Murim School' made an official statement regarding a controversial scene in the January 19 airing of the show. The controversial scene in question sparked (pun unintended) the anger of netizens in China as their country's currency was put on fire and burned on air.

Regarding this, a rep of the drama told OSEN on January 20, "We did not burn Chinese bills intentionally. If you watch the drama, Lee Hyun Woo and Hongbin meet with a desperate and dramatic situation. It was a circumstance in which they had to make a fire, but the only thing they had was the money in their pockets, so they ended up burning that. That's the only thing that could've happened in the story of the drama." In the drama, Hongbin is the son of a Chinese conglomerate.
Despite that, the rep concluded, "We are thinking of editing that scene for re-broadcasts and VOD (video on demand)."
