A private lending institution employee 'A' was reported to have misplaced 6 million KRW (~$4,950 USD) of cash on a road in Suwon City in the process of transporting the money by car.
'A' had driven off after he stopped at a gas station for a smoke break, forgetting that he had left the envelopes containing the cash on the top of his car.
It was only after 'A' drove three miles from the gas station that he finally realized that the money was gone. 'A' trekked back to the gas station in a hurry in a futile attempt to retrieve his money; unfortunately, 'A' was only able to recover 40,000 KRW (~$33 USD) of the original 6 million KRW (~$4,950 USD).
Thankfully, with the help of the authorities and the residents of the area, 'A' managed to recover 1.1 million KRW (~$909 USD). The remaining money was recovered thanks to 4 citizens who voluntarily dropped by the police station to restore it to its rightful owner. Thanks to these conscientious people, 'A' managed to retrieve 5.02 million KRW (~$4,147 USD).
As for the remaining amount if it isn't returned, the police is considering pressing charges against the people that took off with the money.
