Authorities reported that a helicopter crash that occurred on Monday at around 6:22 p.m. (KST) in Gangwon Province's Wonju has resulted in the death of the pilot and a crew member that were on board.
The chopper that was involved in this tragic accident was an AH-64 Apache which belonged to the 2nd Infantry Division of U.S. military in Korea.
Media reports state that the helicopter burst into flames and ash after crashing onto a road around 500 meters (~.31 miles) from a village. There were no other casualties or any further property damage.
A police source revealed that the chopper took off from Gyeonggi Province's Pyeongtaek.
Police and military were said to have been attempting to determine the exact cause of the accident although some sources stated that the helicopter may have hit high voltage power lines because wires were found near the wreckage and a tower was also damaged.
