EXID - 'HOT PINK'
Tracklist:
1. Hot Pink
Riding high on the success of "Ah Yeah," EXID has been a bit quiet up until now. They've released a new digital single, 'Hot Pink,' along with a new MV.
Heavily relying on the easy hooks like their previous hits, "Hot Pink" is an insanely catchy song. Starting out with the English fail "U, I Like The Way U Pink It," it heads quickly into the main refrain: "PINK (HOT) PINK (HOT)." While not particularly evocative, the whole thing is sung to a bendy synth line and is very danceable. Ultimately, it's a hot encounter with a lover song.
I really love Solji's pipes and LE's rapping. LE had more of a part here, as well, which is probably only natural since she co-wrote and co-composed it. They seem to get better with every release, and this was a great addition to my playlist. Til Hani's hips stop moving, make mine EXID!
MV REVIEW
EXID are some fun-loving criminals in their new MV, "Hot Pink."
One of the things I've really enjoyed about EXID is that their MVs are entertaining. Not content to simply have the girls dance around in sexy outfits, Yedang has outfitted them with some funny, outrageous MVs.
And this video is no exception. The girls are apparently thieves, hitching a ride to a gas station and working there, filling up cars and polishing them, obviously for a tidy profit. It seems they're wanted criminals who've made the news. And when the cops find them, well, I'll let you figure that one out for yourself.
They're criminals, but the clothing is not entirely designed for functionality. There's no denying the point of this MV is to draw the male gaze. However, it's no more egregious than any other girl group, and they wear it well. Each outfit is a different cut, and during one of the dance sequences, they're all in hot pink.
The dancing isn't particularly amazing. It's not bad, but it is mostly a ton of hip and butt action, particularly during the chorus. During the bridge it pretty well picks up with sweeping arm movements and something more to look at.
Overall, this video is a fun, wild ride. It's got some of the feel of "Ah Yeah," where, when you weren't laughing, at least you were having fun. Hot song, cute girls, funny MV. What more do you want?
