A man in his 50's was caught by the police for wrongfully collecting benefit payments from hiding his father's death.
On October 29, the Gwangju Northern Police stated, "We have arrested 50-year-old 'A' for hiding his father's death and collecting over 400 million KRW (~$350,000 USD) of pension funds over the span of eighteen years."
'A' didn't report his father's death when he had passed back in 1997 and has been illegally pocketing the benefits that were disbursed in his father's name.
The amount 'A' has received thus far is composed of 180 million KRW (~$157,714 USD) worth of pension from The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs and 280 million KRW (~$245,333 USD) worth of military pension from The Ministry of Defense for a total of around 460 million KRW (~$403,047 USD) .

'A' was reported to have testified, "I don't have any particular job; I lived off the pensions of 1.2 million KRW (~$1,060 USD) and 1.7 million KRW (~$1,454 USD) that were disbursed every month."
Meanwhile, the police related, "We plan to submit a request for an arrest warrant for 'A', who may flee the country, for charges of violating the laws related to fraud and the honor of servicemen."
