On the 11th anniversary since Korea's implementation of the anti-prostitution law (Special Law on Sex Trade), sex workers held a grand rally, protesting the law and asking the government for decriminalization of their work and protected rights for all sex workers.
The protest was held on September 23 in Seoul, and the sex workers appeared in masks with picket signs in their hands, demanding their rights as sex workers.
The representative of all sex workers spoke up on this day and asked, "Why can't sex workers be accepted as laborers? Because there are laws against brothels, adult line businesses are growing. It is crucial to have these businesses for lonely men living alone or for the disabled. If it is allowed within the regulations, then the chaos within the sex industry will also be operating under an organized manner."
The rep continued, "The Special Law on Sex Trade is unconstitutional as it causes a threat to the human rights and the survival of the prostitutes at brothels. [Brothels] should be allowed to hold business within the law while room salons, massage parlors, rest areas, and adult line businesses should be punished."
