SEE ALSO: ADOR states it is 'currently preparing to renew Hanni's visa'
SY forges ahead with his plan to bring down Gwi by exploding his underground cave/hideaway. There is one catch, however. SY will not come out of this alive as he will sacrifice himself and explode into bits and pieces along with Gwi and his abode. YS, aware of her beau's self-destructive intent, defies SY's wishes and follows him to his doom. No girl, what are you doing! If YS indeed does the 'honorable' things and kills herself, then SY's death would be in vain, as well.
When this guy died...
I'm like:
B*tch got what he deserved.
Gwi, with no more meaning to his life now that Hye Ryeong (HR) is gone, goes on a heedless rampage and murders EVERYONE in the palace: eunuchs, maids, guards, soldiers, council members...you name them, he killed them all. He then raises the corpses up as vampires, amassing an army for the final battle against SY and the Black Robes. SY manages to kill all the vampires in the palace. This guy deserves a freakin' medal for his bravery and taking on 20+ undead all by himself.
Man in the back: Maybe if I just lie here oh-so-casually with one arm over my face he'll think I'm dead.
SY: I know you're still alive...and you're next.
Man in back: Sh*t.
SY manages to lure Gwi into his underground palace. As he waits for his nemesis, YS pops out from nowhere shocking SY to no end. SY tells YS that before he met her he had nothing to lose; however, that all changed when she came into his life. YS rebuts, why can't he understand that loving him means she will go wherever he goes, even in death? The feeeeeeels.
Ho Jin: Is it really obvious that I don't know how to use this?
Man: ...Ima be real with you...Yeah.
Seeing the there is no changing her mind, SY reluctantly drinks her blood. SY once again fights with his inner demon and, this time around, is able to defeat him. Now that he has conquered his demon side and is a free agent, he is able to match Gwi's strength. Before, SY stood less of a chance against Gwi because his human heart was stronger than his vampire heart.
Hey girl. Why don't you dance with me
I'm sorry I don't dance with guys whose eyeliner is thicker than mine.
With his demon side completely obliterated, SY fights Gwi with more ease and is actually able to land blows that wounds his enemy. Lee Yoon (LY) enters the foray at some point and carries YS away to safety before he and the 'Black Robes' blow up Gwi's underground palace. As the cave crumbles, rays of sun penetrate the dark underworld, and Gwi is annihilated on the spot, reduced to nothing but a heap of dust. SY is able to withstand the sun thanks to his magical black cloak but we are left to wonder whether he safely escaped the cave or not before the falling rocks completely crushed him.
In the following scenes, we discover that SY indeed survived; the first sign is more subtle, as SY's survival is merely hinted at with a sword in LY's chambers. It is the same sword that LY bestowed upon SY before he left for his battle with Gwi. And we find out for certain at the very end when YS reunites with the scholar on a hilltop.
AWWWW :,)
So we have a happy ending after all! But I was a bit confused as to how he exactly escaped the underground palace. Maybe I'm just nitpicking at this point...Gwi is finally dead, SY is alive and well, LY is king again, Prime Minister Choi Chul Joong got what he deserved, so I got no complaints. I was hoping that the mystery behind Gwi's human lover would be revealed in this episode as he had mentioned her to HR in a past episode. That is the biggest riddle that the show left unresolved. It is possible that I missed something so feel free to fill me in!
What are your thoughts on the drama now that it is over? Anything that you think they did really well or not so well? Do you like it better than the original manhwa or nah?
