On August 10, Chinese media outlet Sina released an exclusive interview in which Tao explains all the misunderstandings regarding himself and makes an apology for his wrongdoings.
According to Korean media coverage of the interview, he was asked, "Are there instances that you regret or thought you did wrong?" and he replied, "I regret what happened with Kris." He seems to be referring to the past when Kris left EXO and Tao criticized his act.
"My personal feelings were the cause for how I spoke to Kris that way," he continued. "My relationship was the best with Kris in the group, and I had no idea why he left. I woke up in the morning, saw the news, and found out he had left, so I posted [those criticisms] on impulse. He's a really good hyung and a good friend, but he had not told me when he left. I even wrote a lot about the experiences from the time I knew Kris, from training to now and when we debuted, at the time."

He also revealed he was in frequent contact with Luhan, but showed caution when talking about getting in touch with Kris. "I don't know if he'd be able to forgive me," he explained. "I'm scared he might think of what I wrote at the time. It was really impulsive at that time. If I had been how am I now, I would have supported Kris's choice. I hope that he will do well. I hope he thinks of me."
He also explained the rumors of his discord within EXO while they were in China, particularly about the video of him shoving Baekhyun. He said, "If you saw the entire video, you'd know that we were playing around. I love all of the EXO members. I don't know why they edited the video however they wanted and uploaded it. All of the members are playful."
It was also revealed that he shed tears as he talked about the recent controversy regarding his behavior and his reasons for leaving SM Entertainment.
