Shocking 'Street Cat Massacre' controversy in Mapo-gu, Seoul has residents concerned

The back-to-back deaths of cats and dogs in the residential street of Mapo-gu, Seoul has been giving a shock to those in the area.

According to the Korea Animal Rights Advocates, also known as KARA, since last month these animals have been showing signs of respiratory distress.

A popular street cat known as "Yellow Captain" has always roamed around the area. Even until the day before his death, the cat was said to be in fine condition but was soon met with shortness of breath and died in a sudden state.

Another incident tells of a dog that consumed something off the streets while on a walk with his owner. The dog suffered from vomiting and showed shortness of breath. After evaluation from a veterinarian, the dog was suspected to have died from poison.

These same symptoms appeared with other street cats and canine. KARA and the Mapo-gu office is suspecting the possibility of "deliberate poisoning." KARA is asking for a police investigation to gain further evidence like that of rat poison or toxic sprays that might've been used to target the animals.
