Goalkeeper Kim Jung Mi of the South Korean national women's soccer team has received widespread recognition for her bravery and efforts on the field!
On their homepage, the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) posted up an article dedicated to the star goalie. Titled "Brave Jungmi shows the way for Korea Republic," the article highlighted her strengths and determination that shone through as she continued to play with injuries. Despite both a headbutt and elbow to her face, which were hard enough to leave dark bruising, she continued to play her best.
While she said that the team was elated to have made it to the group stage, she admitted, "I wished that we did better," referring to the team's loss to France this past Sunday.
However, the team is still standing strong. "Everyday we remembered that we're strong, and we look at how far we have come today," she said proudly. "There were great teams from around the world. It was a tough challenge to play against them. We learned a lot."
Despite the loss, FIFA highlighted that this is the first time that the South Korean national women's team has made it to the group of 16. Kim Jung Mi certainly played a notable role in her team's advancement, as she managed to stand tall and strong through all physical clashes and injuries on the field.
